Spring in the Alpzitt Chalets
- when nature awakens and traditions come to life
The first daisies are blooming in our still somewhat bare meadows, but the lush green of the grass is already pushing boldly through the fields. Buds carefully peek out of the branches of the trees and bushes, while the birds greet the day with their soft, cheerful song. There is a very special feeling in our chalet village: spring is here. And with it begins not only a new season, but also a time full of living traditions.
Palm Sunday - a sign of protection
The anticipation of the Easter season can already be felt in the villages. Children and young people are busy collecting palm catkins, boxwood and other shrubs - everything needed to tie the traditional palm bush. It should contain seven different plants, decorated with colorful flags. An elaborate little bouquet that is consecrated on Palm Sunday and then finds its place in homes.
It then hangs in almost every Allgäu home throughout the year until it is replaced by a new one next spring. As well as commemorating the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, where people are said to have waved oil and palm branches, the blessed palm branches are hoped to bring one thing above all: protection. In our part of the world, it is more of a blessing in spring, a symbol of protection for home and farm.
Holy Week and Easter - spring picks up speed
When Palm Sunday is over, Holy Week begins - a time of anticipation and preparation for Easter. The smell of home-baked Easter lamb wafts through the houses, cheerful laughter can be heard from the kitchens, while eggs are dyed in bright colors. Easter is more than just the Easter egg hunt - for us in the Allgäu, it is also the moment when Lent ends and we welcome the coming summer with open arms.
We love our seasons. We love our traditions. Everything has its place in the cycle of the year, and when a tradition ends, we mentally prepare ourselves for what is to come.
Walking barefoot? Not until May!
We have a little rule: in all months that have an "r" in their name, walking barefoot is taboo. So the joy grows all the more when April says goodbye and May knocks on the door - then it's finally time to take off your shoes and put your feet in the fresh grass!
With these small and large traditions, spring is not only visible, but also tangible. We look forward to the coming weeks full of awakening nature, warm rays of sunshine and shared moments.
Here's to a wonderful Palm Sunday and Easter!
